Finding Commonalities with Other Faiths A Quranic Recommendation: Belgrade Mufti

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Mufti of Belgrade said it is a Quranic recommendation to try and find common grounds with followers of other faiths.

“We seek to find commonalities with divine religions and this is what the Quran teaches us,” Mustafa Jusufspahic said in a meeting in Belgrade with the head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).

He also referred to the situation of Muslims in Serbia, saying while there used to be more than 270 mosques in Belgrade, today there is only one mosque, dating back to 500 years ago.

The Muslim community in the Serbian capital has been after building a major Islamic center in the city for years, he said, noting that it is necessary given the large number of Muslims in Belgrade.

Jusufspahic also said that the Islamic community’s relations with Serbia’s government is growing.

ICRO Chief Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour, who has traveled to Serbia at the head of a delegation to attend an Islam-Orthodox Christianity interfaith dialogue, stressed the need to promote religious teachings among young people.

He also highlighted organization of interfaith dialogues, including those among Islam and Christianity, and said the goal of such programs is finding common grounds.

During his three-day stay in the European country, Hojat-ol-Islam Imanipour is also scheduled to meet with a number of other Serbian officials, including prime minister, speaker of parliament, and culture minister.
